Overview of family support on patients with mental health disorder

Abstract


In the current era of development, several families are faced with problems regarding the existence of family members who experience mental disorders, it is not uncommon for families not to know how to care for family members with mental disorders. Mental disorder is a syndrome or pattern of behavior that is clinically significant that is associated with distress or suffering and causes interference with one or more functions of human life. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of family support in patients with ODGJ in the South Sulawesi Provincial Hospital. This type of research is descriptive observational research. The sampling technique used was non-probability sampling with an accidental sampling approach with a total sample of 25 respondents. Collecting data using a family support questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed descriptively, the results of which were family support in the good category of emotional support parameters by 18 (72%) of respondents, good category of facility support by 14 (56%) of respondents, good category of informational support by 14 (56%) of respondents and family support in general good category as many as 19 (76%) respondents. So it can be concluded that family support on the parameters of emotional support, facilities, informational and family support is generally dominant in the good category. It is recommended for every family to provide maximum support to family members who suffer from ODGJ.
