Focus and Scope

Jurnal Statistika Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang publishes original research articles and critical review articles in statistics. The journal focuses on contributions to statistical theory, methodology, computation, modeling, and applications.

The journal welcomes manuscripts in, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Statistical theory, inference, and modeling, including frequentist and Bayesian approaches.
  • Multivariate, categorical, nonparametric, survival, time-series, spatial, and spatio-temporal statistics.
  • Sampling methods, survey statistics, small-area estimation, experimental design, and quality control.
  • Statistical computing, statistical learning, machine learning with a clear statistical contribution, and probabilistic or hybrid statistical models.
  • Applications of statistical methods in fields such as health, economics, social sciences, education, industry, agriculture, and environmental science.

Applied studies are within the journal’s scope when statistical methods are central to the research. Authors must explain why the methods are appropriate for the research question and data, report and interpret the results adequately, and show the contribution or useful insight provided by the analysis.

Applied studies do not have to introduce a new statistical method. However, manuscripts that only report routine analysis, software output, or a local case description without adequate statistical justification, interpretation, and synthesis are not suitable for the journal.

Research in mathematics, computer science, finance, or operations research may be considered when it makes a substantive and explicit contribution to statistical theory, methods, modeling, computation, or applications.

The journal publishes original research articles and critical review articles. Review articles must clearly describe their search strategy, source selection, and approach to analysis and synthesis.

Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

All research articles submitted to Jurnal Statistika Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang are subject to an initial editorial assessment. The editor checks whether the manuscript is complete, relevant to the journal’s focus and scope, and prepared in accordance with the Author Guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the authors for technical correction or declined before peer review.

Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment are evaluated through a double-anonymous peer-review process. The identities of the authors and reviewers are concealed from each other during the review. Authors must submit an anonymized manuscript and remove identifying information from the manuscript file and its properties.

Each manuscript is normally reviewed by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers assess the manuscript’s originality, relevance, methodological appropriateness, validity of the analysis, interpretation and synthesis of results, clarity of presentation, and contribution to the field of statistics or its applications.

Reviewers provide recommendations and constructive comments to help the authors improve the manuscript. The editor makes the final decision—accept, accept with minor revisions, revise and resubmit, or reject—after considering the reviewers’ reports and the journal’s editorial standards. The editor may seek additional reviews when needed.

When revisions are requested, authors must submit a revised manuscript and a point-by-point response explaining how each reviewer comment has been addressed. Any comment that is not followed should be accompanied by a clear justification. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers or assessed by the editor.

The journal aims to communicate an initial editorial decision within approximately 30 days of submission. This is an indicative target, not a guaranteed deadline; the review period may vary depending on reviewer availability, the number of review rounds, and the time required for revisions.

Editors and reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts and review materials as confidential. Anyone with a potential conflict of interest must disclose it and withdraw from the evaluation where appropriate.

 

Publication Frequency

Jurnal Statistika Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang Published twice a year (May and November).

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

Jurnal Statistika Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang preserves its published content through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a digital preservation service for journals using Open Journal Systems. The PKP PN uses the LOCKSS program to maintain distributed copies of journal content for long-term preservation.

Information about the journal’s preservation status is available through the Publisher Manifest.

PKP PN preservation is intended to support long-term access to published content. It does not replace regular backups of the journal website and its operational data.

 

Plagiarism Policy

Jurnal Statistika Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang does not tolerate plagiarism, including plagiarism of text, ideas, data, methods, figures, or other material. Authors must properly acknowledge and cite the sources of material that is not their own. Reuse of an author’s previously published work must also be clearly cited and must not constitute duplicate or redundant publication.

All submitted manuscripts may be screened using similarity-detection software, including Turnitin. Screening may be conducted during the initial editorial assessment and, where necessary, before publication.

A similarity score is an indicator for editorial assessment and is not, by itself, proof of plagiarism or grounds for automatic rejection. Editors assess the sources and context of matched text, including whether the material is properly quoted and cited, whether the overlap involves methods or standard terminology, and whether there is substantial unattributed or duplicated content.

If potential plagiarism, unattributed reuse, or duplicate publication is identified, the editor may request an explanation or clarification from the authors. Depending on the nature and extent of the concern, the journal may return the manuscript for correction, request a revised submission, reject the manuscript, or take other appropriate action in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.

If a concern is identified after publication, the journal will investigate the matter and may publish a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, as appropriate. Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality, and proper attribution of all material in their submissions.
