Abstract


Novels serve as repositories of deep value, offering readers both experiential insights and valuable lessons. This research aims to meticulously illuminate the inherent character education values encapsulated in the novel "Rara Mendut" by Y.B. Mangunwijaya. This study employs a qualitative research approach and content analysis as the analysis method to comprehend and expound upon the character education values embedded in the narrative structure. The findings of this research underscore that the most highlighted value found in 'Rara Mendut' as the main character is independence. This value emphasized initiative without relying on people, imparting crucial lessons that extend beyond the realm of fiction into the real-world domain. This research thus underscores the novel's pedagogical significance as a reservoir of character education, illustrating how literary work can serve as a potent medium for fostering ethical and virtuous values in its readership
